Exciting Happenings at MilBid

January 14th, 2009

Tonight the owner of MilBid was featured in an interview on NBC nightly news. You can see the interview here: Fresh mint: Commemorative inaugural coins They were doing an informational segment on Challenge coins, about their history and the value they have to members of the US military.  They chose to interview Adam Mulholland for part of this segment as he is an active duty member of the United States Air Force and understands their value but also because he is CEO of one of the largest challenge coin companies in the country.  Adam’s site USChallengecoins offers a large selection of very collectible challenge coins.  Adam also owns Challengecoinauctions for people who prefer the excitement of purchasing their challenge coins in an auction format.

Last February Adam decided to open MilBid- Free auctions supporting the military,as his way to be able to give back to the people serving along side him in the armed forces. MilBid donates any profits from the site and advertising to create care packages to military units serving in the field be it home or abroad. Several of the sellers of MilBid also donate part or all of the profits from the sale of items to this great cause. That is what makes MilBid different from all the other smaller auction websites it has a mission and lives up to it.

So check out MilBid and see how you can help make a difference.

MilBid’s Seller in the Spotlight 12/1-12/8

December 1st, 2008

Welcome to my attic. As time goes by I hope to add many more items that are both new and gently used and quite possibly find their way to you! I love diversity and sometimes my items are at each end of the scale when it comes to being diverse! I’ve even been known to throw in something that is totally odd that perhaps defies description. If I don’t know what it is, someone out there does and will let me know. I’m easy to work with and am constantly monitoring my e-mail for questions. Just let me know and I will respond with an answer. If I don’t know the answer I’ll for sure find it!
Thanks for looking, happy bidding/buying, and remember, this is an on-going work in progress so check back often.

MilBid’s Newest Store in the Spotlight

November 3rd, 2008

Check out the newest Store in the Spot Light at Milbid

Welcome to Noodles’ Country Workshop where you’ll find gingerbread, apples, Americana, angels, kitchen, bath, laundry decor and more! I also have lots of handcrafted wood items and other unique gifts so stop by and take a peek.

I’ve been selling country crafts and home decor on various auction sites for about 6 years . I’ve been meeting lots of great people here and have lots of repeat business.

I get lots of questions about my seller name..noodles886. Well, Noodles was the first dog my hubby and I owned and she was born in August ‘86, hence the 886 at the end of my name. I even have business cards which say “Noodles’ Country Workshop”. She was a terrific dog (lived until she was 16-1/2) and has been my good luck charm.

Anyway, I hope to see you bidding often on my items….I’m sure you’ll find gifts for yourself or others.

The Social Demise of Auctions

October 13th, 2008

As the auction world has been separating itself from eBay and building fortresses on alternative eBay sites the word “business” seems to be lost. In many cases the marketing and money aspect of doing business online in this fashion has been replaced with the word “social”. Though I don’t disagree there should be some attempt in making a website somewhat social, I do believe that social removes true business. In many cases alternative auction sites have a forum, chat, games, challenges, and all the other things to bring in sellers and buyers. What really happens is you develop a club and occasional buying between friends.

When you join an auction site your primary goals should be to make money, make your name known, develop good business skills, and if there is time at the end of the day you may be a little social. Most auction sites focus solely on the exact opposite. In many cases auction sites are not successful because people are chatting and not listing, or posting cute pictures instead of redefining their business strategy. There are so many lost hours in the auction industry that it’s no wonder why most sites can’t get off the ground.

Advice to a person wishing to make money online in this atmosphere is to focus on auction descriptions, listing great items, and then marketing themselves. Being social should truly be the last thing someone should be focusing on. I personally have seen drama take center stage instead of selling products. So as an auction community what needs to be done? How can we teach people that eBay had it right by limiting their social aspect? Unfortunately they are joining in on the social aspect a lot more and you see more people writing posts in the forum or hanging out in their groups instead of pushing the GNP through the site. While watching people that have stopped selling and buying on the giant I have witnessed them to come back and just use the social side of the bay.

Finding a way to put the business spirit into a person is a difficult process. Seemingly, most people put fun time way ahead of making extra money. Getting people focused on success is something that really needs to have an emphasis. In hard times we all know money isn’t flowing but there are still people wanting to buy. People don’t come to an auction site because of numbers; they come because there are products they want. So as sellers trying to make it in this area of online business we need to really focus and make something of the tools we have.
